Southampton right-back Cedric Soares says he is flattered to be linked with Barcelona but insists his immediate focus will be on his nation’s Euro 2016 campaign, the Mirror report.
Barcelona are keen on signing a new fullback with Dani Alves expected to join Juventus this summer, and the Catalan giants seemingly have a number of candidates currently plying their trade in England.
Responding to the reports, Soares admits it’s flattering to hear when a big club comes calling, saying: “It’s always interesting for a player when such an important club and a big name show you their attention.”
“But I can’t be thinking about it because I must be focused on the national team.”
Soares made 24 Premier League starts for the Saints this past season, helping the club finish sixth.
His performances towards the end of the season garnered much attention in the media, and it was rewarded with international recognition and a spot in Portugal’s Euro 2016 squad.
Hi future, along with a number of other Southampton players, could be in the balance should boss Ronald Koeman trade St. Mary’s for the vacant Everton managerial post in the coming weeks.
