Tottenham's Tom Carroll acknowledges fans after the game
One of the shortest lists in regards to those released was Tottenham Hotspur.
Only Emmanuel Sonupe was let go by Spurs this summer.
But one of the more interesting matters regarded the status of midfielder Tom Carroll.
He was placed in the contracted section, with no mention of an extension or an offer on the table – simply put, Carroll remains under contract and it appears he was never set to leave.
Tottenham's Tom Carroll celebrates after scoring their fourth goal
Carroll signed his professional contract with Spurs in 2010. In 2011 he signed a new deal along with fellow youngster Jake Livermore that tied him down to the club until this summer, as reported by Sky Sports.
Since then there has been no mention of a new deal and the general consensus was Carroll was out of contract this summer.
However, it appears that is not and never was the case and Carroll remains a Tottenham Hotspur player.
It is of course possible an extension was agreed when he headed out on loan to Swansea City in 2014. This is common practice but if it did occur there was never any official mention of it.
24-year-old Carroll divides opinion among fans but losing him for free would have been poor business from Spurs.
The central midfielder played 30 times for Tottenham in 2015-16, scoring three goals.
