Napoli are interested in signing Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

According to the report, the Serie A outfit are eyeing the Netherlands international midfielder as an alternative to Udinese’s Piotr Zielinski.

Napoli finished second in Serie A during the 2015-16 campaign and have qualified for the group stage of the Champions League next season.

Wijnaldum joined Newcastle from Dutch giants PSV in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport at the time to be worth £14.5 million.

The 25-year-old did not have a great season and was inconsistent, but he did showcase his quality and talent on a number of occasions.

The former Feyenoord star scored 11 goals and created 48 chances in 38 Premier League appearances for the Magpies during the 2015-16 campaign.

The Magpies got relegated from the Premier League and will feature in the Championship next season.

According to a recent report in The Mirror, Premier League duo Everton and Southampton are interested in signing Wijnaldum from Newcastle in the summer transfer window.
