Both West Ham United attacking midfielder Payet and Arsenal striker Giroud were wearing French colours as the Euro 2016 finals kicked off.
France took on Romania at Stade de France in Saint-Denis in their opening Group A game.
Payet and Giroud started the match, and both the London-based stars played important roles in the home team’s 2-1 victory.
After a goalless first half, France took the lead on 57 minutes when Giroud headed home a delivery from Payet.
Bogdan Stancu pulled Romania level from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, but the West Ham attacking midfielder made it 2-1 to France with a stunning strike in the final minutes of the encounter.
The duo celebrated the success together, as the photos here show, as France enhanced their chances of progressing into the knockout stages of the 2016 European Championship.
France are back in action this coming Wednesday when they take on Albania at Stade Velodrome in Marseille.
