The 23-year-old Portuguese talent was expected to leave this summer, and still might.

The Premier League announced the released and retained list for all 2015-16 clubs yesterday, including that of Liverpool.
There was no surprise to see the likes of Kolo Toure, Jose Enrique and Samed Yesil on the list – but one name not released did come as something of a shock.
Earlier this week the Liverpool Echo highlighted the players expected to be walking away from Melwood this summer.
Joao Teixeira was one of them.

The report stated that Liverpool would be due compensation for the Portuguese talent, who was looking for regular first-team football elsewhere.
But the official list confirms that Liverpool have not yet given up on the player. Instead he is listed as contracted, with an offer pending for a potential extension.
After impressing on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion a knee injury scuppered the Portuguese attacker’s progress. He made advances in 2015-16, scoring his first goal for the club.
But at the age of 23 the talented midfielder needs to be playing regular football and it would not be a surprise to see him reject this contract offer and find himself another club elsewhere.
