The Ugandan international and Rangers target has failed to return after international action amid interest from Ibrox boss Mark Warburton.
Rangers have been linked with Ugandan Khalid Aucho for a number of weeks now and the Ibrox club may have just received a boost in their hopes of signing the player.
As reported by Capital FM in Kenya, where Aucho represents Gor Mahia, his coach Ze Maria has confirmed that the midfield star has yet to return to training after international duty with Uganda earlier this week.
“Aucho, no, he will not play on Sunday. Since he played for his national team, he has not reported for training. This is not the first time it is happening in the club and I don’t know whether it happens in other teams as well. It is not good for him, not good for me, not good for the team and not good for the league.”
The former Parma and Inter Milan player went on to insist that this did not mean the player had left the club, insisting the Rangers interest was, for now, just rumour:
“No, there is nothing and I have talked to the office as well, Aucho remains our player. That is a speculation and a rumour from the media.”
Aucho remains missing despite Mahia heading into a crucial semi-final clash with rivals Tusker – despite it being a week since he played and scored the second goal for Uganda in a Afcon qualifier in Botswana – as you can see below:
Rangers’ hopes of signing him have also been boosted by Gor Mahia’s recruitment of Brazilian Thiago da Silva. His arrival pushes the club over their foreign player quota and Aucho might end up being the one non-Kenyan who departs.
Aucho’s representative Geoffrey Kayemba spoke of the interest from Ibrox last weekend, telling Kawowo:
“They sent the letter to the club on Thursday.
“They have made the offer and all we await is Gor Mahia’s response but we expect everything to go on smoothly.”
This follows confirmation from Gor Mahia’s club chairman Ambrose Rachier last week, as reported by Goal, that the Kenyan club had received an offer from Rangers for the 22-year-old midfielder talent - who has been compared to former Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama.
Aucho himself confirmed his interest in joining Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side to Goal late last month.
