Ricardo Rodriguez is said to be a transfer target for Arsenal
In an exclusive interview with Italian Radio station TMW, the agent of Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez confirmed that his client has recently had a release clause inserted into his contract.
The 23-year-old Switzerland international is believed to be a transfer target for Arsenal, and he admitted his excitement at the prospect of joining his international teammate Granit Xhaka at the Gunners earlier this month, as reported by the Evening Standard.
The Wolfsburg defender's agent spoke candidly to TMW about the clause in his clients contract that was not present up until recently, before suggesting teams with European involvement could hold the advantage in the chase for his clients signature:
"Today Ricardo Rodriguez has a termination clause, which was not there before. You have to respect the contracts. On the other hand, Europe can be a great business card."
Ricardo Rodriguez has impressed for Wolfsburg over the past year
ESPN reported earlier on this year that Kieran Gibbs could leave Arsenal this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements at the Emirates. If this were to happen it would be entirely logical for Arsene Wenger to want to bring in someone of Rodriguez's pedigree to provide competition for Nacho Monreal for the starting spot at left-back.
Any talk of a proposed move would have to wait until after the Euros, however, with Rodriguez on duty with the Switzerland national team.
