Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante demonstrated exactly why Arsenal must buy him on Friday night as he put in a superb performance during France’s 2-1 opening day win over Romania.
France kicked off their European Championship campaign on home soil against Romania, and it was Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud and West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet who grabbed the goals.
While the latter may grab the headlines for his stunning late winner, it was Leicester’s quiet man Kante who once again help the midfield together as he produced a number of key contributions.

As shown by the table above, the 24-year-old went about his business in typical fashion as he regularly broke up Romania’s advances and instigated a number of France attacks from deep.
Kante posted over the 90 minutes and impressive two effective clearances, three tackles and five interceptions while in possession he was calm as ever, maintaining a 91.9% pass-accuracy.
Arsene Wenger’s men have Mohamed Elneny, Francis Coquelin and Granit Xhaka for holding midfield options but none seem as energetic as Kante or nearly as effective out of possession.
