Garry Monk has been appointed as the new Leeds United head coach.
Monk was recently appointed as the Leeds head coach following the departure of Steve Evans.
The former Swansea City boss is one of the best and most talented young managers in England.
Former Leeds midfielder Jones believes that Monk would prove to be a success at Elland Road.
“The appointment of the new manager is a great step forward and I am sure the fans appreciate it,” Jones told The Yorkshire Evening Post. “I am a Leeds fan, I used to play for them but I am a fan now.
“I am as concerned as the next person is but getting Garry Monk is a great step forward for the club.
“Give the manager the reins and let them deal with the football stuff. Let chairmen deal with the finances. I am old school, let the dressing room deal with the football side of it.”
During his time at Swansea, Monk showed what he is capable of, and Leeds fans should be optimistic.
However, the fact that the current Leeds squad is not good enough to finish in the top 10 of the Championship cannot be ignored.
What the West Yorkshire outfit need to do is sign a few good players in the summer transfer window.
The Whites must also make sure that the likes of Lewis Cook, Alex Mowatt and Charlie Taylor remain at Elland Road for the 2016-17 campaign.
Leeds, who have become also-rans in the Championship in recent years, will be aiming to finish in the top six of the table next season.
