According to a report in the Sunderland Echo, Sam Allardyce is planning on offering Jan Kirchhoff an improved deal.
Kirchhoff only joined Sunderland in January from Bayern Munich, but he has made such a big impression at the Stadium of Light that the North East club are already keen to sort out his future.
Kirchhoff only has a year left on his contract with Sunderland, and Allardyce does not want to risk losing the midfielder on a free.
Kirchhoff has already caught the eye with his performances in front of Sunderland’s defence, and he looks set to play a key role for Allardyce’s side next term.
Kirchhoff’s ability in possession, combined with his reading of the game made him an effective shield last term.
Sunderland are also working on tying down a number of other members of the senior squad to new deals.
Patrick Van Aanholt and Jermain Defoe have already signed new contracts, while Vito Mannone is also set to be offered new terms in the coming weeks.
