Once that is done, they can set about getting their transfer business done, with many expecting a busy window for the club. New manager Roberto di Matteo is expected to overhaul the squad that flopped in the Premier League this past season.

Several areas of the team need improving, with the defence one of the areas that needs serious improvement given how poorly it performed.

And it seems the former Chelsea boss is already close to completing his first capture, with the Daily Mail reporting that they are close to signing a defender from a Premier League club for more than £3million.

They will not be the only areas that are strengthened though, with the same report claiming that deals to improve three other areas are already being discussed.

They believe that talks for a goalkeeper, a striker and a winger are already underway as Di Matteo looks to make his mark at Villa Park this summer.
