Aston Villa coach Ray Wilkins before the match
The Liverpool midfielder is part of the England squad for Euro 2016 this summer after a strong first year at Anfield since his move from Manchester City.
Liverpool's James Milner
Give the options Roy Hodgson has in midfield, he is unlikely to be a starter at the tournament, with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Dele Alli seemingly his preferred selections.
Nonetheless, he is likely to play a role from the bench as the Three Lions boss uses all the players available to him to ensure success.
And Wilkins says that the Liverpool vice captain is vital to the England setup.
“He’s vitally important for the squad going forward,” he told Sky Sports.
“He’s played more Under 21 than anyone else. He’s had that education right the way through and now it’s come to fruition with the national squad.”

It will certainly be interesting to see what role that Milner has to play for England this summer.
He was handed a starting role for the recent friendly with Portugal, but failed to impress in that clash, with many saying he looked off the pace in the 1-0 win.
That display may have convinced Roy Hodgson he shouldn’t be starting in France and a place on the bench seems the most likely role for him.
