Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour gave his opinion on Everton defender John Stones reportedly turning down Barcelona on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, June 10).
According to The Daily Mail, Stones has turned down the chance to join Spanish and European giants Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
It has been reported that Barcelona believe that England international central defender wants to move to Manchester City this summer and work with new manager Pep Guardiola
“Barcelona, what a great club, one of the best clubs in the world,” said Parlour when asked about the latest Stones speculation on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, June 10).
“It would be perfect for him as well, the way they play, because they are always in possession. I think defensively you haven’t got to be as sound as you have in England, I really don’t.”
Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs in the world and certainly bigger than City, and it does come as a surprise that Stones has (reportedly) turned them down.
Perhaps the 22-year-old, who can also play as a right-back, believes that he will not get regular playing time at Barca next season.
Or maybe the former Barnsley youngster believes that he would learn more and develop better working with former Barcelona boss Guardiola at City.
Stones is one of the best and promising young defenders in the Premier League, and will feature for England at the Euro 2016 finals in France this month.
