HITC Sport understands that club want Colombian defender to put pen to paper.
Middlesbrough are confident they will land Colombian defender Bernardo Espinosa.
Espinosa's current deal with La Liga outfit Sporting Gijon is set to expire, and they have confirmed on their official Twitter page that he has rejected their final offer of a new deal.

Sporting had been working hard on persuading him to stay with them, after he helped them defy the odds and beat relegation last season.
However, Boro have been working hard on the deal with their Spanish technical director Victor Orta - who is in charge of foreign deals at the club, and he has used his contacts to set-up the move.
Orta already was aware of Espinsoa. as he was at Sevilla when the South American joined their youth side and he has kept a close eye on his progress.
Now sources have told HITC Sport that Boro hope to persuade Espinosa - known simply as Bernarndo in Spain - to make the move to England, and he is understood to have arrived in England for a second-round of talks with his representatives.
"The player likes what he is saying, he is very settled in Spain which is the only issue but a deal is getting closer," the source confirmed.
Bernardo, 26, would provide competition at centre-half for Ben Gibson and Daniel Ayala - who Boro are hoping will also put pen-to-paper on a new long-term deal in the near future - as revealed by HITC Sport.
