Lorenzo Amoruso has suggested to The Scottish Sun that Rangers still have work to do to reach the level of Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Rangers won the Scottish Championship title this past season and will feature in the Scottish Premiership during the 2016-17 campaign.
Former Rangers defender Amoruso has suggested that Mark Warburton’s side are not as strong as Celtic.
The Italian believes that the Gers need to sign two more players who can be leaders for the Glasgow giants.
“Right now Celtic are too far in front, they are too strong,” Amoruso told The Scottish Sun. “Although Rangers beat Celtic in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, the level is higher when it’s throughout a season.
“Rangers must bring in at least two or three decent players to be there for a long period, not just one game. I don’t mean that as any disrespect to anyone, Rangers at this moment are still strong.
“They have a fantastic, co-operative team. But they still don’t have two important players, two leaders. And in the Premier League you definitely need a couple of players like that.”
Rangers, who have recruited former Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton among others in the summer transfer window, will make more signings before the start of next season.
However, Celtic, who are also likely to bring in new players this summer, will still be a stronger team than the Gers.
Winning the Scottish Premiership title may not be possible for Rangers, but they should be aiming to end up at least second.
