Speaking to Goal, former French international Frank Leboeuf has leapt to the defence of under fire Olivier Giroud.
While Giroud may not be the most prolific of strikers in the world, his record in front of goal over the past 12 months has been exemplary.
The striker managed a respectable 24 goals in 54 appearances for Arsenal in the season that has just past, while he has found the back of the net on 8 occasions for the French national team in his last 14 appearances.
Due to the absence of Karim Benzema, Giroud is now set to be leading the line for France at the 2016 European Championships and the Arsenal man will surely have a big role to play in Les Bleus title aspirations.
Nonetheless, the French public is not sold on the idea of Giroud spearheading their attack and the 29-year-old was inauspiciously booed by his own fans during France’s recent friendly victories over the likes of Cameroon and Scotland, despite finding the net on both occasions.
Former France defender Frank Leboeuf has been left baffled by the detractors of Giroud and has now gone on to brand them as ‘Stupid people’.
Speaking to Goal, the former Chelsea man said, “You know we give the light and importance to stupid people. People who booed Olivier Giroud, if you ask them why they did it? I am not sure they have an answer.
“Sometimes you want to explain something inexplainable but really I don’t understand why [they would boo Giroud]?”
