West Bromwich Albion technical director Nick Hammond has expressed his desire to keep hold of forward Saido Berahino this summer, the Express & Star reports, despite speculation from other clubs has been ongoing for some time.

Berahino has been linked with a move to Tottenham for some time, with reports back in March, including one from The Guardian suggesting that he was in line to complete a protracted move this summer after the Baggies had rejected four bids for the 22-year-old.

Hammond is quoted in the Express & Star, saying: “I’ve had conversations with him and have been very impressed with him as an individual.

“I like him a lot and think he’s a top player. I told him clearly I’d love him to be at the football club next season.

“He’s a very talented individual, he’s a good age, he’s a home-grown academy player.

“He’s the type of player I’d love to be here next year.”

West Brom certainly have a player at their disposal that is capable of being their match winner and could be the difference between several league positions with their contribution over the course of a league season and age on his side meaning that the talent he has should only improve - and he could be one of the league's more feared marksman. It's inevitable that the Baggies will want to keep hold of him.

As the Express & Star's report cites, there is interest from Tottenham in different forwards this summer, meaning West Brom could hold on to Berahino this summer.

Given the bids that West Brom have rejected in the past, the chances are that even if Berahino were to depart this summer then it would be a big fee.
