The summer has only just begun but Tottenham Hotspur have already been linked with a whole host of potential new signings.

There is no doubt Mauricio Pochettino needs to strengthen his squad but the trick is ensuring he brings in players better than what he already has at his disposal.

With Tottenham flying high last season that could prove tricky, certainly without breaking the bank, but here we take a look at the top five players to have been linked with a move to White Hart Lane this week.

The story that has really excited Tottenham fans this week is the news that AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen could be closing in on a £12million move.

According to the Mirror, the North London club are close to sealing a deal for a player who scored a very impressive 32 goals in 49 appearances for the Dutch club last season.

The rumour that will not go away, the Southampton midfielder is again being linked with a reunion with his former boss.

The Kenyan international is exactly the kind of holding midfielder Tottenham need and according to the London Evening Standard Pochettino is still hoping to convince the Saints to sanction a deal.

Franco Vazquez

According to the Sunday People, Tottenham are interested in Palermo player Franco Vazquez, an Italian who can play as an attacking midfielder, a winger or a secondary striker.

He has the talent to impress in England but his goal and assist rate is not likely to set the pulses racing, especially when you consider he is already 27.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport – and later reported by Talk Sport in England – Pochettino has personally called AS Roma forward Antonio Sanabria to alert him of his interest.

Despite being only 20, the Paraguayan scored 11 La Liga goals last season during a loan spell with Sporting Gijon and it is now being claimed Tottenham want to bring him to England.

This one appeared to have gone away, but it has returned with a vengeance with the Times claiming Tottenham are now confident they will ultimately secure a deal for Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi.

The Belgian international is an exciting prospect but he is not worth the huge sums being bandied up in the media.
