Wolverhampton Wanderers have lodged a £750,000 bid for Fulham striker Matt Smith, according to a report in Thursday's Sun newspaper (page 53).

However, the London club are said to be holding out for an extra £50,000, despite the 27-year-old's two goals last season.

Wolves are said to have held a long-term interest in Smith, who arrived at Craven Cottage from Leeds United two summers ago.

According to the Sun, the 6ft 6in target man was the subject of a loan bid from Kenny Jackett's side last season.

Wolves head into the summer short of attacking bodies, with Bjorn Sigurdarson released and Adam Le Fondre returning to Cardiff City following a less than productive loan spell.

It was reported by the Express & Star earlier this week the Black Country club had also bid for Anderlecht striker Idrissa Sylla, while Manchester United's James Wilson, Newcastle's Adam Arsmtrong and Chelsea's Patrick Bamford were also listed as targets by the same publication.

Wolves struggled for goals last season, with Nouha Dicko spending much of the campaign sidelined and top scorer Benik Afobe sold to Bournemouth in January.
