According to the Mirror, Southampton plan on fending off strong interest in forward Sadio Mane by offering him a new and improved deal to remain on the south coast.

Mane has been heavily linked with Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, the Daily Star report.

The former Salzburg man has enjoyed a superb season on south coast, scoring an impressive 11 goals and adding a further six assists in 30 Premier League starts.

With boss Ronald Koeman seemingly all-but set to trade Southampton for Everton, a number of Saints players have been tipped to follow the Dutchman out of the door including Mane.

However, the report claims that Mane is instead rather relaxed about the prospect of Koeman moving to the Toffees and as a result the club believe they could persuade him to stay on.

The 24-year-old has two years left on his current Saints deal, and the club will no doubt place a hefty price-tag on his head should both Liverpool and United step up their attempts to sign him.

The Reds are said to want him following their failure to sign Mario Gotze, while United have remained admirers following numerous reports while watching ex-Saints man Morgan Schneiderlin.

Mane has the ability to play for a top four club, yet Southampton feel they can challenge next season.
