It is no secret the East Londoners are on the hunt for a new right back this summer with only youngster Sam Byram a recognised full back in that position.

As expected popular Irishman Joey O'Brien, 30, has been allowed to leave following the expiration of his contract after fives years with the Hammers.

A Sam Allardyce signing back in 2011, O'Brien helped the Hammers win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt and was also a regular as the Irons cemented their place back in the top flight.

'Give us a JOB'

Injuries restricted the former Bolton Wanderers man to just 91 appearances in his five years at Upton Park while Slaven Bilic's arrival saw the defender rarely used last season.

West Ham confirmed O'Brien was being released in a statement on the club's official website earlier this week where he was thanked for his service.

But what did Hammers fans think about his exit?

Posts on social networking site Twitter suggest that while supporters knew his limitations they nevertheless appreciated his commitment, reliability and versatility.

One fan even joked they wanted to buy him in the club's auction of assets being stripped and sold off following their departure from their beloved Boleyn Ground home of 112 years.
