Michael Carrick has signed a new one year deal at Old Trafford
José Mourinho has praised Michael Carrick’s ‘wealth of experience’ after it was announced on the club’s website that the English holding midfielder had signed a one year contract extension.
Carrick’s future had been the subject of much speculation, with Perth Glory in Australia seeking to lure the former West Ham and Spurs player away from British shores, following a reduced role this past season under Louis van Gaal.
But José Mourinho still believes that Carrick has a role to play at the club, citing his wealth of experience and his footballing intelligence as reasons for why he deserves to stay at Old Trafford for at least another year.
Mourinho has praised Carrick's experience
“Michael is a very intelligent midfielder and a great reader of the game. I am pleased that he will be extending his contract.
“His form this year shows his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever.
“Michael has a wealth of experience from his many years at the club and that knowledge will be invaluable to me. I am really looking forward to working with him."

Mourinho looks now to be getting down to business at Old Trafford, having made it his first official signing yesterday with the arrival of Ivorian defender Eric Bailly from Villareal.
And it is safe to say that won’t be the last deal Mourinho will make this summer, especially thanks to rumoured war chest supposedly totaling over the £150 million mark to play with.

However, the future of Louis van Gaal’s number two Ryan Giggs still hangs in the balance, and it is believed he is considering an offer to stay at Old Trafford, but not as Mourinho’s assistant.
