Italian website Tuttomercatoweb report Edinson Cavani is keen on a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool keen.

But could the prolific Uruguay international end up at another club on Merseyside, who are keen to spend big this summer?

Everton's Iranian investor Farhad Moshiri has pledged £100 million in spending money this summer, The Mirror reported, and will be looking for a statement signing.

Cavani would be exactly that, and would get crowds rocking at Goodison Park.

A sticking point would be a lack of European football, but Cavani could be the type of signing who would attract other top quality players to the Toffees, and help them overtake rivals Liverpool.

Cavani struck 25 goals in all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain last season, winning a third league title, and is reportedly keen to play in a more competitive league, which is why the challenge of Everton could appeal.

The trump card which could allow Everton to actually pull off a deal, is wantaway striker Romelu Lukaku.

His agent claimed in March that PSG are a club he would consider joining, SkySports reported, with the Belgian keen to challenge for titles and play in the Champions League.

If PSG sign Lukaku then their need for Cavani will diminish in any case, and make it easier to allow him to leave. Everton could put themselves into pole position by offering a potential swap deal for the 29-year-old, and stun the rest of Europe in the process.

It may seem ambitious, but the amount of money Everton have to spend is serious, and should not be under-estimated. They can compete for top players now, and should take a look at doing so. Cavani should be their first port of call.
