Stoke City forward Bojan has told the Daily Mail that Everton defender John Stones still has the potential to develop into a top talent.
Stones has come under criticism this past season, for his performances at the heart of Everton’s defence.
The England international has looked shaky at times, but Bojan feels that the scrutiny that Stones has been placed under has been unfair.
“I have sympathy for Stones,” the former Barcelona man said.
“People jump to conclusions but he is still only 22 and learning. He has excellent quality on the ball and will become a great player but you need to allow him to breathe and develop.”
Stones was part of an Everton defence which was particularly porous over the last campaign.
The youngster is still highly regarded, though, and he is part of England’s squad for Euro 2016.
England’s first match at the international tournament comes on Saturday against Russia in Marseille.
England also face group stage matches against Slovakia and Wales, which they will be expected to win.
Stones is unlikely to start for Roy Hodgson’s men at the tournament, with Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill likely to be the Three Lion’s first choice pairing.
