Paul Merson has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 8th June, that Everton could have a chance of winning the Premier League next season.
Leicester City’s shock victory last term has convinced Merson that other teams could do the same.
The former Arsenal midfielder believes that the Toffees have made a great appointment by convincing Ronald Koeman to move to them from Southampton.
And Merson now feels that there is less work to do be done at Everton than there is at many of the title favourites, providing they keep hold of their key players.
“Manchester City need four or five, Arsenal need four or five, Manchester United need four or five, Liverpool need four or five,” Merson said, when asked who will win next season’s Premier League.
“I worry about Manchester City as well. Pep Guardiola is a great manager, but there’s no league like this in the world. Conte [at Chelsea] has to get used to it as well.
“I think Koeman is an unbelievable signing for Everton. If they end up keeping all their players, who is to say they can’t do it next season?
"I just think what Leicester did, it gives everyone hope.”
Everton are likely to have to fend off interest in Romelu Lukaku, John Stones and Ross Barkley this summer.
Koeman has been promised that he does not have to sell any players that he does not want to, though, with the Merseyside club expressing great ambition for the future.
Everton also reportedly have £100 million to spend, as they look to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window.
