Koeman is expected to complete a move from Southampton to Everton in the coming days.
The Dutch manager has been tempted by the Merseyside club, after they promised him a £100 million transfer budget.
Southampton fans have been left hugely disappointed by Koeman’s decision to leave, especially after he initially denied that he would be interested in a move to the Merseyside club.
Koeman stated that he was happy to stay at Southampton when Everton were first linked, but he then decided that the switch to Goodison Park did appeal to him.
Some sections of Saints supporters feel that Koeman has taken a sideways step by moving to Everton.
And Beattie, who represented both clubs during his playing days, would not be drawn on whether Koeman has taken a step up.
“I can’t really answer that,” Beattie said, when asked whether Ronald Koeman has taken a step up by moving to Everton.
“I think with the way that he has progressed Southampton over the last few years, he’s done a great job. But with the new ownership of Everton he is going to get a big war-chest. Success doesn’t come with money, but he’s a great acquisition and someone who can utilise the money well.”
Koeman guided Southampton into a sixth placed finish in the Premier League last season, while Everton ended up finishing in 11th place.
