Arsenal's Francis Coquelin and Mesut Ozil in action with Aston Villa's Idrissa Gueye
Not many Aston Villa players enhanced their reputations last season during the club's campaign from hell, but Idrissa Gueye got close.

Koeman's sides at Southampton have been reliant on a quality ball winning defensive midfielder, with Morgan Schneiderlin excellent in 2014/15.
Victor Wanyama has been doing it for the Saints for both seasons under Koeman, and the manager could hope that Gueye could perform the same type of role for him at Goodison Park, for a fraction of the price it would cost to sign the Kenyan midfielder.

One of the areas Everton need to address is the holding midfield position, with Gareth Barry heading into the last year of his deal, and Gueye could be an excellent complement for the former England international, and eventual replacement.
