Should Everton look at signing Idrissa Gueye from Aston Villa?

Not many Aston Villa players enhanced their reputations last season during the club's campaign from hell, but Idrissa Gueye got close.

The defensive midfielder was up there with Leicester City star Ngolo Kante when it came to winning balls in midfield, but the big difference was he did not have the same supporting cast.

Gueye's reported £7.1m release clause, cited by the Daily Mail, makes him a good potential signing for a Premier League team looking for a potential bargain.

That is where Everton and Ronaldo Koeman should come in, once the Dutchman is confirmed as Toffees manager.

Koeman's sides at Southampton have been reliant on a quality ball winning defensive midfielder, with Morgan Schneiderlin excellent in 2014/15.

Victor Wanyama has been doing it for the Saints for both seasons under Koeman, and the manager could hope that Gueye could perform the same type of role for him at Goodison Park, for a fraction of the price it would cost to sign the Kenyan midfielder.

One of the areas Everton need to address is the holding midfield position, with Gareth Barry heading into the last year of his deal, and Gueye could be an excellent complement for the former England international, and eventual replacement.

Everton may have their sights set higher due to their recent investment, or on a younger player than the 26-year-old, but Gueye may be too good to overlook, and could be worth a shot.

Do you think Idrissa Gueye would be a good signing for Everton?
