It has not been a great season for any of the Aston Villa players, but Leandro Bacuna perhaps got it tougher than many of the group.

The utility player was widely unpopular among the Villa faithful after several poor performances and what looked to be a general apathy toward the demise of his own club.

With that in mind it would have done him good to enjoy the occasion of some international football this week – which is just what he did.

He scored his first goal at international level for Curacao in what was Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert’s final game in charge of the Caribbean nation.

He scored in a stunning 7-0 win against the U.S. Virgin Islands – his first goal since choosing to represent Curacao in March.

The former Groningen star is a former Dutch under-21 international but now has three caps for the side, ranked 154th in the FIFA World Rankings.

Bacuna is expected to leave Villa this summer and in March told Sky Sports of his potential desiere to return to Holland to continue his career.
