According to Il Mattino, Liverpool are keen on signing Porto’s Hector Herrera.
The Italian editorial claims that the Mexico international midfielder is top of Napoli’s wish-list this summer, yet the Italian club face strong competition for his signature from Liverpool.
The Reds are intent on strengthening their squad this summer with boss Jurgen Klopp looking to stamp his authority on the club and shape the senior squad to his liking.
The Merseysiders already boast a strong starting eleven, yet there are areas for improvement and towards the end of last season it became evident a new energetic midfielder needs to arrive.
Herrera started his career at Mexican side Pachuca, helping the side qualify for the latter stages of the Liga MX championship before departing to join former Mexican-based star Jackson Martinez at Porto.
The Portuguese outfit have often brought the best talent from Central and South America to Europe, and Herrera certainly fits into that category following his impressive displays in Portugal.
The 26-year-old is very much a box-to-box midfielder, capable of breaking up possession in deep areas while getting forward enough to pose a great threat in the final third.
He has notched 15 goals in 79 appearances for Porto, while in his latest display for Mexico he scored his nation’s third goal during a 3-1 win over Uruguay in the 2016 Copa America in the United States.
Herrera would be a superb addition for Liverpool, yet the Anfield club must move quickly if they plan on signing him as the Italian report goes on to say that Napoli are closing in on his signature.
