Leicester are in an interesting position in the coming months as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season’s Champions League campaign while fighting off interest in their better players.
Trio Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante are the three attracting the most attention and the club’s interest in Mendy suggests the latter could well be heading out of the King Power Stadium sooner rather than later.
Kante has been heavily linked with Chelsea in the past few days, according to the Mirror, while fellow London club Arsenal are said to be big admirers of the tenacious midfielder.
Mendy is of similar mould - predominantly a holding midfielder possessing bags of energy and pace.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a terrific campaign at Nice this past season, starting all 38 French top flight matches and averaging 1.7 tackles and 2.2 interceptions per league encounter.
Mendy has represented France at under-21 level, and some could argue that the former Monaco man was unlucky to miss out on the senior squad for this summer’s European Championships.
Claudio Ranieri has identified him as a key addition to his Leicester squad, and if reports are to be believed then confirmation of a switch to the East Midlands seems only a matter of time.
