Arsenal made a surprise move for the Leicester City star on Friday.

Arsenal will likely have to wait to sign Jamie Vardy as his representatives have told them he wants to focus on Euro 2016, reports BBC Sport.

The Gunners triggered a £20million release clause in his contract on Friday, offering him big wages to make the move to the Emirates.

Current club Leicester City are thought to have countered that bid, making an improved contract offer to try and keep their star man at the club.

A conclusion to the deal was expected on Monday, with reports claiming that Vardy had told Arsene Wenger he would inform of his decision before heading to Euro 2016 with England.

That call did not come, leaving the Frenchman worried that he was set to miss out on the Premier League’s second highest goalscorer from last season.

And it appears that they will have to wait to learn what his choice will be as BBC Sport claims his representatives have told them he is focused on Euro 2016 first and foremost.

However, they have not told them that he will wait until after the tournament to make a decision, although it looks likely that a deal will not happen until later in the summer.
