Could Tottenham convince Quincy Promes to sign, despite his reservations a year ago over a Premier League switch.

Tottenham Hotspur are tracking exciting Dutch winger Quincy Promes, The Mail report.

The 24-year-old plays for Russian side Spartak Moscow and has impressed, netting 18 goals in 30 games this season.

Promes has been linked with a move to the Premier League before, specifically Manchester United.

Quoted by The Mirror last summer, Promes explained why he rejected a move a year earlier to sign for the side coached by Louis van Gaal, believing he would not get the playing time he needed.

He said: "I felt at that moment not ready to make the transfer to Manchester. Who could guarantee me that I would not be constantly overlooked at United."

Promes concerns are fair, given that fellow Dutch international Memphis Depay has struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford and was not even part of their squad which won the FA Cup Final.

Tottenham should hold out hope that this time, Promes can be tempted to move to the Premier League.

Over the past two seasons since snubbing Manchester United, he has really kicked on, scoring 31 goals combined, and showing an improvement this past campaign on his first year in Russia.

He has also progressed to become a senior Dutch international rather than playing with the under-21s, with 12 caps to his name to date.

There is no guarantee he would become an automatic choice in a very competitive Tottenham Hotspur team, but he should be more confident of making an impact based on his achievements in the past two years.

Spurs do not have a traditional right winger like Promes, so he would offer them a different threat, and potentially take some of the goalscoring burden off Golden Boot winner Harry Kane.
