Colchester United's George Moncur in action with Tottenham's Erik Lamela
Barnsley and Charlton Athletic have both seen bids rejected by Colchester United for midfielder George Moncur, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Colchester are facing a fight to keep hold of star performer Moncur following their relegation from League One this season.
Moncur was one of Colchester's shining lights in a disappointing campaign for the club this season, scoring 14 goals in 51 appearances.
Barnsley have held a long-term interest in Moncur and they are keen to bring the former West Ham United youngster to Oakwell as they plan for life back in the Championship next season.
New Charlton boss Russell Slade is also an admirer of Moncur and sees him as a key addition to his plans as they look to mount a bid for promotion back to the Championship next season.
