Speaking to Radio Yorkshire, Neil Warnock has praised Leeds United supporters, describing them as "fanatics".

The 67-year-old spent slightly over a year as Leeds manager, before parting company with the Whites in 2013.

But Warnock, who left his role as Rotherham United boss last month, seems to have retained an affinity for the United fans.

"The crowd is second to none really in the country," he said to Radio Yorkshire. "They're just fanatics really."

Seven different managers have managed Leeds since Warnock left in a record which more or less sums up owner Massimo Cellino, who has fired six head coaches in two years.

Leeds fans were disappointed by the latest managerial casualty in Steve Evans, who was dismissed despite comfortably achieving his remit of steering United from relegation last term.

But the supporters will be firmly behind his replacement in Garry Monk, with Cellino naming the 37-year-old as Evans's replacement last week.

Former Swansea City boss Monk has a big job on his hands. If the signs for Premier League promotion aren't very bright by, say, October, the ruthless Italian may wield that axe of his once again.

They finished 13th under Evans this past season, 19 points clear of the relegation zone.
