Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has confirmed he is in discussion with Tottenham Hotspur over the transfer of star man Franco Vazquez, as quoted by Gianluca Di Marzio.

Spurs are reportedly set to formalise their interest this week, as reported by the Mirror, and Zamparini’s quotes suggest a deal is a very strong possibility.

“I’m in contact with Tottenham for Vazquez and I requested 25 million for him”, said the Palermo president.

“I received some lower offers for Vazquez but he’s worth as much as Berardi. He’d be great wherever, I don’t know why he’s so underrated and I don’t know why. He’d be good at Leicester, Milan and Roma (if they) were interested but if I see Berardi going for 25 million then I’d sell Vazquez (for 25 million)”.

Vazquez is a technically gifted attacking midfielder, who likes to take on opponents and possesses great vision. His acquisition would certainly provide Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino with a unique option but it is unclear whether chairman Daniel Levy will be willing to meet Zamperini’s demands.

25 million euros is £19.5 million (at today’s rate) and after the mixed results of the Erik Lamela transfer, Levy may be reluctant to take another expensive gamble on a Serie A star.

He will however, be aware of the need for Tottenham to strengthen their squad if they are to enjoy a good campaign on both domestic and European fronts.

Pochettino was hampered at times last season with a lack of quality options with which to rotate and this is an issue that will need to be addressed in the coming months.
