HITC Sport understands a contract extension is in being lined up.

Newcastle United are set to offer fresh terms to defender Chancel Mbembda, HITC Sport understands.

The DR Congo international joined the club last summer from Anderlecht in a deal worth around £10million - and he was one of the few bright points from a dismal season that saw them relegated.

With Rafa Benitez staying on, he has insisted that the club do not sell their prized assets and although some will be allowed to leave, Mbemba will not be one of them.

The 21-year-old has four-years left on his current deal but Newcastle are ready to offer him new terms in a bid to keep him happy and away from any interested parties.

Newcastle will be letting some players leave and HITC Sport understands that Dutch trio Gino Wijnaldum, Daryl Janmaat and Tim Krul will be allowed to go at the right price, along with French ace Moussa Sissoko.

Chieck Tiote is another who could be sold on, although HITC Sport has been told that the Ivorian could yet be offered new terms after impressing Benitez towards the end of last season.

Benitez has made it known that he would like Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez to be part of his striking options but he could yet bring in at least two more front-men.

Andros Townsend will be given the option to move on, if his contract clause of around £10 million is met - and their is substantial interest arising from the Premier League - but Benitez has told the England winger that he would like him to stay, a request he is seriously considering.
