The brother of Manchester City teenager Chidiebere Nwakali has told All Nigeria Soccer that Celtic's approach for the midfielder failed last week.

The Bhoys now have Brendan Rodgers at the helm, and he will be hoping to bring some new signings over the course of the summer transfer window.

However, it appears that Celtic have failed with one move already, and with Patrick Roberts already on the books, it seems that the Bhoys attempted to land another Manchester City teenager on loan.

Midfielder Chidibere Nwakali is one of a host of talented Nigerian teenagers around Europe right now, and whilst Kelechi Iheanacho has been making a name for himself in the City first team, Nwakali has been earning experience out on loan.

After spells in Spain with Malaga's B team and Girona, the athletic and skilful midfielder Nwakali is now in Norway with IK Start, but with that loan deal coming to an end, Nwakali's immediate future is somewhat unclear.

Intriguingly, Nwakali's brother Allwell has been speaking to All Nigeria Soccer about the situation, and even revealed that Celtic attempted to bring the midfielder to Celtic Park last week, having seemingly been impressed with his performances in Norway.

However, Allwell Nwakali claims that City rejected Celtic's advances, and the player is attempting to find out whether he will be part of City's pre-season preparations under new manager Pep Guardiola - meaning Celtic are unlikely to get a better answer if they try again imminently.

"Celtic wanted to sign Chidiebere last week, they approached Manchester City but the club gave them a negative response" said Allwell Nwakali.

"He was in Manchester to see the officials after he was given a two-week break by IK Start to find out if he will take part in pre-season. We are working hard for him to start playing for Man City," he added.
