Newcastle United could be offered the chance to sign Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace this summer, reports the Chronicle.

The striker only managed 16 appearances in the Premier League for Crystal Palace this past season, amassing just 768 minutes of game time.

The Eagles are eager to add a striker to their squad this summer after the experiment with Emmanuel Adebayor failed to produce tangible rewards.

Should a new forward end up at Selhurst Park, it is likely to see Gayle pushed further down the pecking order at the club.

The 26-year-old’s advisors are already assessing his options and, according to the Chronicle, Newcastle could be a possible destination for him.

As far as they are concerned, the deal could be either a permanent one or a loan deal between the two sides.

Rafa Benitez’s side are chasing a striker themselves and a move could be tempting for Gayle should be guaranteed first-team football and the chance of an instant return to the top flight.

They would face competition for his signature though with Norwich City also likely to be keen after they chased him in the January transfer window.
