Leicester City are to launch a bid to try and sign Troy Deeney from Watford, The Telegraph report.

The Foxes are keen to sign Deeney, with star striker Jamie Vardy on the verge of an exit, currently deciding whether to join Arsenal after his release clause was activated.

Leicester hope Deeney can be tempted away from the Hornets, who have recently just changed their manager despite staying in the Premier League.

Leicester are still hopeful Vardy will stay, currently preparing a new contract offer for the England striker, and The Telegraph report they could still continue their approach for Deeney even if their talisman rejects Arsenal.

Like Vardy, Deeney has worked his way to prominence through the lower leagues, making his name at Walsall, and a decade ago as a youngster spent time on loan at non-league Halesowen Town.

Deeney was last week linked by The Sun with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, and Leicester's move to push to sign him could yet push the North London side into action.

At 27 he is two years younger than Jamie Vardy, and coming off an impressive season where he netted 13 Premier League goals.
