Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has played down suggestions that he had any role in the club pushing to complete a transfer for Leicester City's Jamie Vardy.

Wright sent a message on Twitter earlier this week urging the Gunners to snap up the England international, which was not well received by Leicester fans.

Days later it has emerged that Arsenal are indeed trying to pull off a coup to sign the Football Writer's Player of the Season, with The BBC reporting they have met his release clause.

Wright took to Twitter over the weekend to dismiss suggestions he has any kind of pull with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Earlier in the week former Arsenal striker Wright had stoked the debate over Vardy's future by simply posting an opinion that he wanted Vardy at The Emirates.

Vardy struck 24 goals for Leicester City in 36 games for the Foxes last season to help them win the Premier League title.

Arsenal finished second despite beating Leicester home and away, finishing 10 points behind the surprise champions.

Vardy would become Arsenal's second signing of the summer, having already secured Granit Xhaka from Borussia Moenchengladbach.
