The forward endured a difficult campaign, starting off strongly but going on the longest goal drought of his career in the second half of the season.
Giroud is set to be France’s leading man at the Euro 2016 final this summer, though, with the national side currently missing Real Madrid star Karim Benzema.
The French fans are not happy with that, recently taking to booing Giroud during a friendly ahead of the tournament.
The Arsenal striker has responded to those critics by enjoying decent goalscoring form, his latest display seeing him score twice in the 3-0 win over Scotland.
As far as Deschamps is concerned, the striker has answered his criticism and has his full backing regardless.
“Olivier Giroud responded to his critics by scoring in Nantes, now he’s scored again,” ESPN reports him saying. “Olivier has not been playing badly but he has been heckled by some of the supporters, it’s a part of the job at the highest level. I trust him and he knows it.”
It will be interesting to see how Giroud fares this summer, with the pressure firmly upon him to do well.
The expectation around the hosts is high to say the least, and should they perform poorly, the Arsenal man is likely to come in for much of the blame.
Giroud though, has something of a point to prove though and starring at Euro 2016 could be the perfect way to do it.
