Barry Horne has told The Liverpool Echo that Ronald Koeman would be a success at Everton.

Koeman is in charge of Southampton at the moment, but he could become the new manager of Premier League rivals Everton soon.

According to Sky Sports, the Toffees and the Saints are close to finalising a £5 million compensation deal for the Dutchman to takeover at Goodison Park.

Former Southampton and Everton midfielder Horne believes that Koeman would be a success at the Merseyside outfit.

“I can understand why Everton have gone for him,” Horne told The Liverpool Echo. “He is dignified and carries himself well, which is absolutely crucial for anyone who plays or manages at Everton. He doesn’t get into trouble and doesn’t seem to fall out with people.

"Like all players who have played for the clubs, and the level, at which he has, Koeman has a great strength of conviction and confidence and, in that sense, I don’t see any reason why he won’t be taken to by the fans.”

During his two years at Southampton, Koeman has proved that he can work in a tight budget and with players of limited quality.

The fact that the Saints finished above West Ham United, Liverpool and Chelsea in the Premier League table this past season proves the Dutchman’s quality.

The problem that Koeman could face at Goodison Park is the expectations of the fans. Everton supporters will want the team to at least challenge for a top-six finish in the Premier League table during the 2016-17 campaign.
