According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United could make a move to sign Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford.
The young forward was on Newcastle’s radar last season, but they failed to complete a deal.
Newcastle could return for the England youth international this summer, though, following their relegation from the Premier League.
The Magpies have put Fulham striker Ross McCormack at the top of their transfer wishlist, but should they be unable to do a deal for the 30-year-old they have other targets to pursue.
Bamford is believed to be one of the options Newcastle are considering, as they look to bring in a striker with a proven record of scoring in the Championship.
Bamford has enjoyed prolific spells on loan at Middlesbrough and Derby in the second tier, but he struggled to find the back of the net last season in the Premier League.
Bamford went on loan to both Crystal Palace and Norwich City, but he failed to score for either side.
If Newcastle also miss out on Bamford, they are believed to have discussed making a move for former West Bromwich Albion target-man Victor Anichebe.
