MLS team of the week: Liam Ridgewell and Jack Harrison fly the flag for England

GK – Brian Rowe (LA Galaxy)

The Galaxy keeper atoned for his error in last weekend’s 3-2 loss at the Montreal Impact with a solid display against Sporting Kansas City, recording four saves and a clean sheet in a goalless draw.

RB – Taylor Peay (Portland Timbers)

Making only his first start of the season, Peay proved rock solid for Portland in Wednesday’s 1-0 home win over the San Jose Earthquakes, racking up a match-leading five tackles, two interceptions and two clearances over the 90 minutes.

CB – Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders)

The US international made 10 interceptions, six clearances and won four aerial duels in Seattle’s 1-0 win at D.C. United.

CB – Liam Ridgewell (Portland Timbers)

As well as scoring the winner against San Jose, the former Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion defender made seven clearances and won three aerial duels to help preserve the clean sheet.

LB – Jimmy Medranda (Sporting Kansas City)

The 22-year-old Colombian was SKC’s standout player in Thursday’s draw with the Galaxy, recording two key passes, four shots, eight interceptions, three tackles and five crosses.

DM – Osvaldo Alonso (Seattle Sounders)

The Cuban midfielder set up Seattle’s second goal in the win over DCU, while also making eight tackles and completing 59 of his 68 passes – 10 of which were long balls.

CM – Vincent Nogueira (Philadelphia Union)

The Frenchman continued his impressive start to the season with another strong performance in the Union’s 3-2 home win over Columbus Crew SC, grabbing a goal and winning four tackles.

CM – Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo)

The 33-year-old’s second-half strike secured the Dynamo a 1-1 draw from Thursday’s trip to Texas rivals FC Dallas.

RW – Jack Harrison (New York City FC)

The 19-year-old English rookie marked his first MLS start with a goal in Thursday night’s 3-2 loss to Real Salt Lake at Yankee Stadium, along with making a match-high five dribbles during his 73 minutes on the pitch.

LW – Chris Pontius (Philadelphia Union)

The former D.C. United winger bagged his fifth goal of the season and set up Nogueira’s strike in the win over Crew SC, winning the MLS Player of the Week award for his performance.

ST – Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders)

With Clint Dempsey and Nelson Valdez away at the Copa America Centenario, Morris led the line impressively for the Sounders against DCU, scoring the 79th-minute opener and getting all four of his shots on target.
