Olympique Lyonnais chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has told Eurosport that Barcelona have made contact regarding Samuel Umtiti.

However, Aulas has claimed that the two clubs are far from agreeing on a deal over the transfer of the 22-year-old defender from the French outfit to the Spanish giants in the summer transfer window.

"Barcelona have approached us about Umtiti about 10 days ago but there are no negotiations taking place yet,” Aulas told Eurosport, as translated by ESPN. “Samuel is not on the verge of leaving the club."

Bad news for Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United?

Umtiti is a very promising and talented young defender, and Barcelona’s interest in the Frenchman should not come as a surprise to anyone.

However, the Spanish and European giants’ approach for the former France Under-21 international is bad news for Premier League duo Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham and Tottenham are interested in signing Umtiti from Lyon in the summer transfer window.

While playing at the Olympic Stadium for West Ham or featuring in the Champions League and fighting for the Premier League title with Tottenham would be attractive for Umtiti, Barcelona are a much bigger club than the Premier League duo.

Barcelona are clearly interested in the Lyon youngster at the moment, and if he does not take the opportunity to move to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window, then he may not get another chance.
