The Sunderland star believes the January signings added something extra.
Wahbi Khazri celebrates after scoring the first goal for Sunderland
Speaking to the club’s official website, Sunderland midfielder Wahbi Khazri says the club’s supporters and the January signings adding something extra special helped them secure survival.
Sunderland left it until late to avoid relegation this past season, as they secured their Premier League status with just a game to spare.
A number of factors were key to them doing so, with their January additions, such as Khazri, playing a vital role in the second half of the season.
And the midfielder says the players signed adding something special, as well as the club’s supporters, were key factors to them avoid relegation to the Championship.
“I have been really impressed by the support we have received from the fans,” he told safc.com.
“It was great because they have really helped get us over the line. We already had a great squad and a good team but the new signings brought something a little extra.”

Sam Allardyce will now be hoping he can enjoy similar success in the summer transfer window as he did in January.
He looks set to be busy as he seeks to ensure that the Black Cats do not find themselves in another relegation battle next season.
The transfer window will be key to that, and if he can ensure similar success to that he had in January then they are likely to fare much better than they have in recent years.
