According to the Daily Mail, Celtic scouts watched Reading midfielder Oliver Norwood this past season as he gears up for Euro 2016.

The Bhoys were criticised under Ronny Deila for having too many midfielders on the books, with the likes of Nir Bitton, Scott Brown, Scott Allan, Tom Rogic, Callum McGregor and Stefan Johansen all competing for places in the middle of the park.

Deila may have gone, but none of the aforementioned players have moved on - and yet the club appear to have been scouting a midfielder in England recently.

The Daily Mail report that Celtic scouts have been watching Reading midfielder Oliver Norwood ahead of a possible move, but Hull City are currently in pole position.

Norwood, 25, was on the books at Manchester United as a teenager before leaving aged 21, joining Huddersfield Town in 2012 - and after nine goals in 90 games for the Terriers, he earned a 2014 move to Reading.

Now, Norwood is heading to France this summer as part of Northern Ireland's Euro 2016 squad, and Celtic happen to have a fellow Northern Irishman in charge having appointed Brendan Rodgers last month.

Celtic's scouts may well be keen on Norwood, and he certainly has the quality to play for a bigger club than Reading, but a move from Celtic and Rodgers may not be the best idea right now.

Rodgers has an embarrassment of riches in the middle of the park, and unless a player like Bitton, Johansen or Rogic leaves this summer, then Norwood shouldn't be targeted - especially when other areas of the team need strengthening, and young players deserve a chance to shine in midfielder.

However, if Rodgers does end up needing a midfielder, swooping for his compatriot could be shrewd from the new Bhoys boss, even if he would have to battle Hull for Norwood's signature.

Do you think Rodgers should move for Norwood?
