Danny Mills suggested on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, June 3) that Garry Monk could be sacked as the Leeds United head coach after the opening weeks of the 2016-17 season.
Former Leeds defender Mills rates Monk as a manager, but he has suggested that the Englishman could find himself out of a job by September if results are not positive at the start of next season.
“I think Garry is a great manager, young British manager that can come in and do something, if he is given time,” said Mills on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, June 3).
“I can understand why he has taken it. I think it is a great opportunity for him and for Leeds. The worry is if it doesn’t go well after seven or eight games, there might be somebody in by the end of September.”
Monk is a very good manager and he showed that at Swansea, but he needs to be given time at Leeds.
The Championship is a very tough and rigorous league, and it is hard for any team to be very consistent.
Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino is well known for randomly hiring and firing managers, but the Italian entrepreneur needs to maintain his faith in Monk, at least for the first half of the season.
