Speaking to BBC Sport, Chris Davies has backed Luis Suarez's glowing tribute to new Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

Of course, the duo spent a number of years together at Liverpool, in which Suarez developed into one of the world's finest goalscorers working under the Northern Irishman.

The Uruguayan hitman acknowledged that the 43-year-old had a huge impact on his career last month (talkSPORT).

Davies, 31, was appointed as manager Rodgers's assistant coach last week, having worked with the 43-year-old at Liverpool and Swansea City in the past, and the young coach says that Suarez's sentiments sum up the new Hoops chief - both as a man and a manager.

"He's excellent. All the big players that Brendan's worked with rate him very highly," he told BBC Sport.

"I saw what Luis Suarez said about him recently and that's just testament to how players feel. He's got really human qualities that players warm to. He's really open and likes to be very close to his players and I think they feed off that as people."

If Rodgers can also improve Leigh Griffiths then Celtic might boast one of the most devastating strikers in Europe.

Of course, Griffiths doesn't need improving, having reached the 40-goal barrier this past season, helping them to a fifth successive Scottish Premiership crown, but if Rodgers can push him to an even higher level then a sixth straight league title surely lies on the horizon.
