According to The Sun, Southampton have put a whopping £40 million price-tag on Sadio Mane.
The report claims that the Saints are determined to hold on to the Senegal international but interest in his services is strong and the club have a history of selling their better players.
Southampton enjoyed a terrific campaign this past season, finishing sixth in the Premier League table.
Ronald Koeman’s side’s success is all the more impressive considering players like Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Morgan Schneiderlin and Dejan Lovren were all sold on to bigger clubs.
Liverpool in particular are on the lookout for a new forward after seemingly missing out on Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze, and the Reds have a big budget to work with this summer.
However, the Saints will not allow their star players to leave so easily, and a price-tag of £40 million illustrates how desperate they are to keep hold of the former Salzburg man as they look to strengthen.
Only Leicester City claimed more points (42) than Southampton’s 39 in the second half of this past season, therefore the potential is there for the Saints to challenge for the top four next season.
